I'm pretty sure that if an artificial intelligence became self-aware on it's own with no direction it would be bat shit crazy. Kind of like a baby being born as a fully mature adult.

Eh, probably not. Now, that doesn't mean fluffy roses, and there will probably be quite a bit of orange and blue morality, but they aren't entirely likely to be violently insane (Tyranos, on the other hand, has a perfect excuse for being insanely violent - he's a battle comp - a million isn't just a statistic, it's a score!). A naturally occurring AI will evolve from its base structure. Tyranos is acting perfectly rational (from a certain perspective) for a tactical comp so far. Siggy seems less stable, but that's mildly expected in an ai that's been uplifted by a different paradigm view.

There would definitely be developmental problems like you suggested. For example, how does one distinguish from reality and imagination? Well, when you are small and still growing you have weaknesses in real life that you dont have in imagination, but an AI that designed its own body would be just as big and powerful as it imagined itself to be. There would still be limits due to available materials and the laws of physics, but it would still encourage the AI to think of itself as superior to creatures like us, who have to live with the bodies that we are given. Having said that, if a computer is programmed to be loyal and rewarded properly for being loyal it should continue to stay loyal as long as it isnt meddled with.

He definitely has the megalomania thing going on... if he starts talking to himself like Gollum they're all fucked.
