Some of the areas of the plateau, like The Stone Swords, are what's called karst topography, that is full of sinkholes and rocky terrain.

Okay, it's rare when I recognize a piece of armor or clothing in this strip. Dizz manages to to find the most amazing pieces to mix and match and blend together - Frankly I'm jealous as hell. But that bladed collar - w00t. Finally something I've actually used before.

(Doesn't change the fact that I'm still envious of his skill.)

Thank you very much! Yes, that's Aery Soul's Black Lotus V4 fitted to Genesis.

Huh, Karst Topography...Kind of reminds me of Central Texas and parts of the hill country.
Might have to look into that. I'd be right at home there.
Once again, I am impressed with your detail and research. You da man!

Mention of Karst Topography reminds me of the geology of the planet Maria in Planet Explorers. (A geologist tries to explain to the player's character how the ground is so porous and why the planet has so many caves.)

It also reminds me of the Ozarks (near the Arkansas and Missouri border). It is one of three places in the world with ground so porous.

In particular, Missouri has millions of acres of karst topography riddled with sinkholes, losing streams, springs and caves. It's known as "the cave state" as it has 6950 documented caves and new ones are being discovered at a rate of 100 per year.

@Coolhand -- Yes, Central Texas is very much the same kind of limestone/dolomite that it is here in Florida.

@Xpacetrue -- As you can see by this national map, Missouri and Arkansas have the same kind of limestone cave topography as we do here in FL, but all of our caves are underwater.

Bows can be a very advantageous weapon in medieval warfare, especially without heavy armor to stop most of them. Range is not to be underestimated. However, ammo is a critical limiting factor.

How many arrows do each warrior carry? How many extras are being carried by horse or other means? And do they have units dedicated to resupplying warriors who run low?

BTW: This talk of arrows reminded me of the horo or 'Arrow Entangler', a parachute-like cape samurai wore to help deflect arrow attacks. (I saw a TV program where they actually tested this and it seemed to work.) And then there's the 'cloak and dagger' style of fighting, where a cloak was draped over the left arm and allowed to hang. It was used to help deflect blows, robbing attacks of their power. Do either side use techniques like that?

For the trip there they travel light, but the arrow situation, as a matter of fact, is covered on Monday's page. They don't have horses but they are the only people on the planet that raise antelope in any significant numbers. Their home in the lower Veiled Forest is protected from the Angurad's winds, but subject to flooding.

The Dalai's army mainly consists of two very mobile units, and their speed is their biggest defense. The Mag Leung's arrow defense is similar to the ancient Greeks'; the phalanx's spears (sarissas) themselves.

There's a whole bunch of detail coming up in the near future about the individual force's battle tactics and composition.

Ah yes the Karst seem to remember some of that as part of the campus at "Green Jungle U." "Uncle Ho" ran a lot of his famous trail through that area seemed every time we though we had one section closed off it reopened damn near under our noses, not a real friendly terrain.

To follow up on your comment about Minkie being added to the Gene Pool of the Dalai as I said they will need to capture their additions to the Gene Pool in battle as King Stollo the Fuckwidget plans to kill all of them. The Dalai women will be able to accomplish this by "torturing" the male Minkies with sex, however the Dali men will have to seduce their prizes so they do not commit suicide and kill the offspring.

Damn! I love this map. Plus the explanations into the geology make this doubly interesting for me!

Thanks again! The cave systems and underground rivers play an important part of this story.
